Does anyone know where I can get a replacement shift interupt switch for a Mercruiser 888? The one I have has gone bad and I need a new one. It was acting up last year by sticking and now this year its finally gotten to bad to use. I replaced my lower shift cable this week and everything else works great. Shifts in and out of gear just fine, but this is only on the muffs and not under load. If I leave the shift interrupt switch hooked up it will randomly kill the engine from the vibration. I pulled the switch and tested it and it is sticking. Any ideas???
74Silverline

As a temporary fix you could try hosing it down with electronics contact cleaner which is available from any auto parts store.

It seems that Merc. has discontinued the support for All of the Lever actuated Switches,....
I know there are Several of them........ All NLA ......... :(

As for Switching the Whole Shift Plate, for the New style Plunger switch,......
The 888 will have the Reverse Lock Issue to deal with,.....
Might have to also switch to a New Style Trim pump,.....

I'd try Cleanning,+ Lubing 1st,..... With chemicals from an Electronic's Store......... ;)

Clean & lube it like Bondo says....
I have an 888 switch plate that I picked up on ebay last week, but I'm keeping it, because like Bondo says, alot of parts are NLA, & I plan on keeping the boat for awhile....
I paid $20.00
Keep your eyes open, they turn up now & then ;) :) .....JK

I've ordered a switch from a local electronics company. It looks to be about the same. I may have to make an adapter plate but I'm hoping it works. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
74Silverline

Re: Shift Interupt Switch

I'm not sure what type of shift interupt switch the Mercurys have but I was able to find a replacement shift interupt switch at www.mouser.com. They carry the switches that the company Cherry made originally for OMC. Perhaps they might be the same or simalar? I got the switch with a roller lever on to for $17.00 shipped. They do carry different type of lever and plubnger setups. Hope this helps!!

Just an update. I received the switch I ordered and it was pretty similar to the one I took out. The mounting holes were not perfect but one lined up so I only needed to drill and tap one hole. Hooked it all back together and all is well again.
74Silverline
