1987 Johnson 88 SPL Lower Unit

I misplaced my manuel, so I'm looking for the Lazy man's answer. I need to replace my impellor (Water Pump) Is it just a matter of loosing the 4 bolts by the lower unit? and shift linkage is accessable where? If someone has a link or can explain steps to take ,I would appreciate

Try shop.evinrude.com and look up your mtr. They have good parts diagrams. Next thing to do is find your manual.

Follow the shaft up, in the center area the shaft is pinned into a horizontal shaft/clamp. There is a clip on the end of the horizontal shaft. Remove that, and the shaft can back out a bit, freeing the shift shaft. Not hard to put back, just have to get everything lined up ok, slide horizontal shaft in, and replace clip.
