PPG paint?

Could someone give me some insight into what "PPG" paint is?

Is that just the manufacturer? Or is it a specific type of paint?

If you aree intending to use it on a boat you want to ask for single stage paint.

PPG, Sikkens and Dupont...are three premium paint coating manufacturers, there are others...each manufacturer has different formulations for different applications.

There are also Marine Paint manufacturers that specialize in marine coatings... a couple of brands that come immediately to mind are Interlux and Awl-Grip...

PPG is the manufacturer. it stands for pittsburgh plate glass which became PPG Industries. PPG has the Ditzler line as well as the Omni line of paints for automotive use, and Pittsburgh paint and olympic for architectual coatings.

sort of like how Minnesota Mining and Minerals became 3M
