Lip on housing behind gimbal bearing broke -- Is this acceptable?

Posting this out of an abundance of caution as it seems obvious enough. But too far in to this project not to take advantage of the site's experience just in case there's something outside the obvious that's a consideration here.

In the pic see a lip broken away on the housing to the rear of the gimbal bearing. Still plenty of surface for the bellows to seal to. Lip area in question highlighted inside the red circle. It did not break any further with the removal of the bearing. Any reason not to use this?

By plenty or surface are you saying there is contiguous metal in the slot where the bellows lip sits and below the area that is held by the clamp? With both of those areas solid you are good. Any gap at all and you are spitting into the wind.

And now he makes me worry.....

The lip is in tact all the way around. There is about 1/16" of good meat behind the lip also. This seems to this novice to be plenty of clamping area.

The bellows that came off was split in its middle. But it had been clamped to the same area for some unknown number of years. By the looks of things quite a long time though.

Will probably go ahead and get the bellows on and see what the clamp and clamping area feels and looks like when it tightens up. Everyone keep their finger(s) crossed.
