Hi guys, I have read about adding a tell tale to the plug infront of the thermostat housing. In the pics you can see I have this plug to the right of the T-stat housing on top of some kind of channel that runs from top to bottom of the cylinder head cover. there is actually another plug on the bottom. I am curious if could remove that top plug and add a fitting for a tell tale there? Is that channel a water line for cooling? One other question quick, in the other pic. There a hose behind the shift linkage I just noticed today and was curious what it was for? It runs to a fitting in the front of the motor under the carb I think.

Hi Phishnvdub. As fate would have it I just added one to my '66 20 hp and it actually works :) No more craning around to check the exhaust. I believe the same method I used will work for your motor as well. Here are some handy links. Holler if you get stuck. Good luck.

Yea that should work.
I think the bottom hose is part of the fuel recirc system.
Helps recycle unburned oil/gas.

Thanks for the info and links guys. I was hoping to add the tell tale without drilling and taping. Never really done that and don't want to screw something up. Jerry, did you mean the plug or drilling taping should work?

By the way, phish, "drilling and tapping" isn't anywhere near as difficult as it looks. I thought the same way you did before I tried it. As long as you take your time in the "tapping" portion and use quality tools, it really isn't difficult at all. Heck, I know that if I can do it, anybody can, lol.
