Hi !

I have a new to me Johnson, what I think is 60 - 70 hp, mix your own oil in the gas outboard the owner said was "mid 80s"

the best i can get the numbers off the sticker, as it is warn out, are as follow :

Model # E40AELCC8 (the last few numbers are hardest to read)

and

Serial J757737 ( all numbers are hard to read)

Anyone have a good guess what model, Year, HP ... you might find from this ?

Its kind of hard to get parts when you don't even know exactly what your motor is.

Thanks everyone !:D

Strange.... anywhere else you can find the serial or model number on the unit ?

Explain, describe what you have. Why is this weird? Look on the powerhead for a small quarter size core plug that might have the model number on it.

I just find it weird that the motor cover says johnson but you say evinrude. Are they the same really ?

Yes, just like Ford & Mercury.... different colors is all. Someone has either installed a different powerhead or changed the hood. Did you check the powerhead for a small core plug (looks like a small freeze out plug) that might have a model number on it?

The "E" at the beginning of the model number indicates "Evinrude". If a Johnson, that letter would have been a "J".

I think I found the freeze plug with a number on it like RBH 043201, does that make sense ?

Thanks

The "RBH" is instead no doubt "RPH" (Replacement Power Head) which tells one that the powerhead has been replaced, but other than that..... tells us nothing more.

I guess I will have to keep digging, it looks like a mid 80's johnson that I can see in pictures, but I need an impeller so having trouble with that.

Maybe it is a 1988 like you said and the johnson cover was bought later or something....
