I have invested quite a bit of time, effort and money trying to figure why my alarm is now continuously running and the key will not shut off the engine. I just got the boat back and replaced a switchbox. The mechanics took it out for a 30 minute run and they said the alarm did not go off and the key did turn the motor off. When I went to pick it up they ran the boat for me and the key did turn the motor off. I have to add that the alarm has been a source of problems for about three years now. Last year I replaced the stator and the alarm seemed to get better and only intermittent. After the switchbox was replaced I took the boat for a 15 mile run to fish and when I got to the fishing grounds the motor would not shut off. Luckily I installed a brass fuel shut off valve and it saved the day. Unfortunately between the stator, the switchbox and other repairs over three years I seem to be stuck in a rut. Does anybody know why after this repair the alarm would stay constant. It had not done that prior to the replacement of the switchbox. This box is the one that is mounted on top next to the stator and has red, white and black wires and has three screws connecting it. There is another box just below and it has not been replaced. The thermostats have been replaced and it stays constant 170 degrees now. It uses oil and there is the usual blue smoke when idling and disappears on WOT. I'm ready to just repower this but the engine runs perfect. I have to add that when I took the boat to the boatyard the first time they removed a lots of wires that were just hanging under the console. It is a 20 foot Larson center console. What is going on?
