Yes, you need to install it. The tiny loop goes around the end of the needle in the slot around the end. The long slender loop portion goes over the float arm. it is used to pull the needle out of the seat when the float drops down.

Daviet nailed it. I've heard on this forum that little connector was not installed in some of the early 9.5's but I think it is a very good idea to have it in place. Best of luck. Rick.

Genius!! I installed that piece of metal today after work, this should help the idle issue. I didn't see that piece of metal (spring) in there when I was rebuilding it a few days ago...

All I have to do now is wait on my fuel pump gaskets to get here and once that is together then she should purrr (idle)!!! crossing my fingers..... Will update.

Got everything installed... and it didn't help the rough idle.......... my next turn is to pull the flywheel and check the coils and points... I've never done this so wish me luck lol
