I had a 2011 40HP (non Bigfoot) installed on my 16' Crestliner last year. I thought replacing the old 25HP Bigfoot with the 40 HP would give me more top end speed, but unfortunately all I got was 2 miles. After a couple of months of fishing, It felt as if the RPMs on WOT were low, so I had it tested. Here is the results:
Boat = 16' and aprox. 1300#s loaded
Prop = 15 x 1-1/8
WOT RPMs = 4700
Top Speed = 28 mph
This seems wrong to me. After some discussion about prop sizing with the local marina, we were convinced that going down a couple sizes in pitch would get my RPM range up...That would be good, but it wouldn't get my speed up.
What I thought after some time was that perhaps the cable stop for WOT on the tiller handle was not adjusted correctly and that the prop is correct, I just need to re-adjust the cable?
I'm at a loss and wanted to reach out to see if anyone had any suggestions. Any thoughts would help. The motor is brand new last year and has very little time both this year and last, my thought is that it should be in top shape.
Please help me diagnose my poor performance.
Thanks.
