While checking the boat at the stern drive, I found a small hole in the bellows. Salt and fresh water entered the stern 270 and at the drive shaft bearing. plenty of sludgy oil in the bellows after removal.
So far I sand blasted the yokes replaced the u joints, but having a hell of a time removing the upper gear box of the stern. the bolts seem to be frozen in place. Any suggestions? I plan to change the seal and bearings in the upper gear box of the stern drive.
Also I would like to change the drive shaft bearing. Just wondering do I have to remove the drive shaft to replace the seals and bearing? and how difficult of a job am I looking at when reinstalling these components?
Allthough I feel like replaceing these things, everything turns well, is tight, no movement back and forth from the drive shaft or yoke. no noise. What is your opinions?
