1976 7.5 No spark

Trigger wires separated wile motor was running I had the wires soldered together to redo a old splice but I have no spark now , I disconnected the stop switch from ground to help trouble shoot the no spark issue .

My question is the stop switch just a simple ground out to stop the motor or dose it have to be hooked up to complete a circuit for the motor to run?
