Repower with older motor

i am looking at a 1993 boat with a 5.0 ford OMC Cobra that is shot
can i put a 302 out of a 1974 mercruser in place of it or will that be a mess


like will i be able to use one of the couplings or get one that fits the old mortor and nwe drive shaft
