Basically I need to know what lower units will match up to my 1991 70 hp Johnson. I saw the price on the new drive shaft and it too much for my tight wallet. I am seeing plenty of lower units for sale that look close but I want to be sure parts will enter change. I also thought of having the splines on the shaft re cut if possible. Tomorrow I will try to get the shaft out of the lower unit and see what in the world could have caused such damage. I keep thinking my 7 year old tied something to the prop and when I tried to pull off the boat trailer bam ,stripped splines. He admits to nothing!!
