Is a aq170 the same as a b30 volvo moter?

Hi I have a 1976 omega ski boat with a stright six volvo moter in it. The serial number on the moter reads 81557112213. Im not sure what model the moter is but i think the numbers on the side read B30. It also has three solex carbrators on it. I was wondering if any one had a idea what it might be? The moter has a blown head gasket and the head has a smill creck between two of the valvs. I would like to fix or replace the head but i need to know what moter it is. Does any one know how i can find out what it is? and who might have parts.

I can't find my manual, is the 170 a twin OHC? If it is, it is marine specific - never used in the auto world. And welcome to iboats!!

Have a good look at the manifolds before spending any money - i have heard they are rare- yes it's a B30 inline 6

The B30 is a 3 liter, 6 cylinder motor built by Volvo for use in their vehicles in the early 70's. Finding parts can be a challenge. Good Luck.

I was surprised what Volvo still sources- try the dealer- i bought head gaskets last year for my 1964 B36B. You think your B30 is rare....The B36B was only made 2 years...63 and 64 and last in a truck in the 50's -the gaskets came from sweden, but they were quite cheap, and real Volvo parts...

Thanks for the info guys. Im new in the boat world this is my first boat. I really dont know any thing abought them. I bealive the out drive is a OMC it is white and you have to use those earmuff looking things on it to start it out of the water. Does any one know if a 4 banger volvo moter will fit it? I have one if it will. What other kind of moter will bolt up to a old OMC?

your outdrive is a Volvo penta outdrive, not an omc.

Do all volvo penta out drives have the same bolt pattern?

What exactly are you asking?? Outdrives are outside the transom in the water. Are you talking about the bolt pattern of the engine and bell housing? They vary from engine brand to engine brand. Are you thinking of replacing your 170 with a 130? They are very simular and might be doable. Why you would want to,I don't know. You wouldn't have enough power. You say you have a "4 banger" so you should be able to compare the two.

I would like to know what other kind of motor will bolt up to my volvo penta out drive in place of my b30 6 cylinder volvo penta motor.

Anything will bolt up - 4, 6 or 8, if you have the correct bellhousing.
