1983 140 hp trim gauge stays in the up position. The wiring diagrams I have found only show two wires coming out of the outdrive, I have four wires. The two wires are wired per the diagrams, the other two are not connected to any thing. The trim tilt and trailor switches all seem to function as they should. This motor was taken out of a Glastron hull, rebuilt and put into my Cruiseliner II. Any suggestions?

Re: Tilt trim wiring

There should be 4 wires coming through the transom shield, 2 for the trim limit switch, and 2 for the trim gauge.

Sound like the trim limit switch is hooked up, the switch on the port side of the drive and the trim sender the one on the starboard side of the drive is not hooked to the gauge wiring. Look in the Adult Only section of the forum for the manual for your drive & engine then check the wiring diagrams

Re: Tilt trim wiring

Ok figured that part out, the limit switch is attached and functioning. Tested the position sending unit and got random numbers as I moved it. So I took it apart and found rust, broken wire, etc. So I need a new one, how hard is it going to be to pull the new wires through with the existing wires?

More involved then I expected but looks like I can do this. Thanks for the prompt help. The two tools I will need can I get drawings to make them (I have a lathe & mill) or do I need to purchase?

According to the instructions Don gave, it looks like one end of the bellows has to come off. How's the condition of those bellows? If there are any cracks in the rubber, they're ready to be changed as well.
