Another question related to changing the water pump impeller on this outboard. Thanks to all for previous help. When the drive shaft came out of the motor with the lower unit, two splined rubber bushings/seals fell out of the unit. They both are about .75 of an inch long and one of them is tapered for about half of its length. It seems apparent that they fit on the splined end of the drive shaft (together they would cover about half of the length of the splined portion of the shaft), but I need to know in which order they go on the shaft and if I should push them all the way to the end of the splines on the shaft before reinserting it into the motor.

It appears so, but the one part on the schematic on the link appears to be a step down from one circumference to a smaller one, while my part is a true taper, not a step down. Is that likely just a part modification from one series of motors to another?
