I bought a boat, motor and trailer a few years ago. Unfortunately the ID plate with S/N and model # fell off.
Can anyone determine from the attached pictures what year it is?
And (doubtfully) model number?
I need to replace the fuel pump and put in a carb kit, but need year and model.
Thanks

From what I see of the throttle handle/linkage, head, powerpack, coils & plastic rev limiter, I would say it would be between 1983 & 1986

there should be a nickel sized aluminum plug, either hidden behind the powerpack...shifter side, or behind the coils on the opposite side. ( or maybe somewhere else on the powerhead?) it should have the model # and serial # stamped on it.

I can see the welch plug one your photo's its on top of the cylinder on the right side, that usually has numbers that will tell you what year it is. The small square fuel pump has been used for many years on these motors and I do beleive they are all the same. The carb kit I'm not sure about , but my guess is that if you get one for a 9.9hp or 15hp in the 80's it should work just fine. Remember to clean out or replace your fuel hoses - look for deterioration inside the hoses - the new fuels of today are not very friendly to older fuel systems. Use premium fuel and good oil - it will help.

If you have a number on that welsh/frost plug write it down and give Evinrude customer service a call. They will know exactly what you have from that number. Best of luck. Rick.

Do you mean this plug and number?
Do I call any Evinrude dealer or do I have to call BRP head office?
Thanks for all the replies.

That is your serial number, you can try your local dealer, but you will probably end up calling BRP.

Re: 9.9 Evinrude Motor

I called BRP and was told the lookup system on old units is hit and miss. Mine is a miss.
Thanks for the help.

That is a 1979 Motor, it's exactly the same as mine. You can tell by the shims, they shimmed the 79 motor to get more power back then. I think it gave the motor really about .50HP(nothing fancy). If you add the 15HP carb you'll get about 1.5hp with the shims. That motor looks really nice, everything is original on it, even the coil packs and the power pack.

Here's my 1979;

That was the day I pulled it from the deep end. :)
