I have a blown 3.0L and would like to swap for a straight six, I have confirmed that I can, regarding mounting and all but I have been told that I may have to change the outdrive do to gear ratio? Not sure what the ratio is know but will find out and post, thanks.

I don't think that the ratio would be an issue because the hp rating of the straight six is close to that of the 3.0. The 3.0 I think is around 135 hp the straight sixes are between 120 and 140 best I can recall.

Having said that the first thing I see is a straight six rated at 165 hp. It will depend on the engine you have in mind.

Re: engine swap from 3.0 4cyl to straight six

A 3.0L uses a 2.0 ratio drive, while the old 165 straight 6 uses a different ratio, something like 1.75:1. So yes you would need a different drive.

Also, a 3.0L to 165 HP swap isn't going to be straight forward as a 140HP to 165HP swap. While the 140 4cyl and 165 6cyl share a bunch of common parts, the 3.0L does not.

Ayuh,... It's 1.84:1...

If the 3.0l was swingin' a little prop, the I6 will need a much Bigger prop, or the gear ratio changed...

If the 3.0l was swingin' a 21",.... there ain't any props Big enough to make up the difference...
