merc steering

I have a small leak in my steering assisted actuator. My question is, can i just loosen the steering pump and run without the steering pump

It will be hard to steer, and you probably would need a different belt. Are you sure it's not just a loose fitting or something?

No i had to buy a new actuator this year and got a used one from the bay. Don't feel like pulling the part. Just taking belt off of the steering pump and having to use some extra muscle to turn. Just don't want to put strain
on my alt.
