I have a 1988 Stingray 195 SS. I just identified the problem I have with the trim sender. When I isolated the sender I found it was open. The cause was water leaked in, rust built up and somehow broke the resister wire leaving the sender open. I'll install a new kit as soon as I figure out how. My question is, is it necessary to remove the outdrive to install the new limit / sender kit? Where can I find instructions. I have the manual "Mercruiser Stern Drives 1964-91 repair Manual"

Thanks!

Is this is the trim sender "position" switch, the trim sender "limit" switch or both?

On my Maxum when I bought it 2 years ago, the trim position switch was already not reporting the right position to the gauge so I bought the kit for whenever the bell housing might need to be removed I'd have the parts. So far, no need to pull the bell housing when I've done the annual maintenance when just the drive is pulled.

If the drive limit switch is working properly where you have proper limiting in place, you should be able to easily get through the season not needing the drive position switch working. Just drive by "feel" meaning the drive will either be all the way down or slightly up when running.
