I have one of these too. Trying to get it running as well. Keep us posted on what you find wrong. These parts are not cheap...

Here's what I found
Module 336-4516 (repair and return $140) and High Speed Coil ($34)

Points ($58.95), but looks like you can also get a Sierra 18-5139 on Amazon or eBay (thanks to a poster to my forum questions)

Condenser 336-4463 ($85.00)

Makes you wonder what the motor is worth. By the time it's all said and done, repairing will be about $500.

Parts for that motor are still around at some dealers. Oldmercs.com and Seawaymarine.com can probly set you up with most of the parts. Ebay may have some listed also. Rehabing the older motors is rather $$$ and a compression check should be done first to see if the unit is worth the expense. Do not forget the water pump and carb when doing a rehab. IMO

^ Yes compression check first. Don't throw money away changing parts.

Seldom do 3 items go bad on engines at once, never replaced a condenser or a module ever, have had many insulator blocks short out. Have you tested the system or are you just throwing parts at it?

You're right. it doesn't make cense. I just have a bad miss and a boat mechanic told me to get all 4 items. I'm not a mechanic but with instructions could probably do it. I don't think it's the module tho. What would you do? I have all winter to figure it out. Just don't want to waste $. Mike oh, and thanks!!!!

Start with the insulator block on the point lead that fixes 90% of them. The points are high voltage and burn almost as some as the engine fires, if they are burned so bad you don't feel they can be gaped properly clean them with a file watch the alignment and polish them while they are out to change the insulator block. Here's the test for the module it's the same as a 2 cyl so this will work. Any decent shop with a condenser tester can test the capacitor for you.

first check the wires from the coil back to the stater and the points if you have to change them theres only three also check your kill switch I have just replaced one on a 7.5 mercury that would work when it wanted that could also cause you problems
