I've got a good one. (or a bad one depending on your point of view.)
I had to replace my main drive gears. Followed the proceedures as I understood them.
When the outdrive was all reassembled, I took it out and the forward to reverse and reverse to forward shifting is real hard. Neutral to either gear is normal and when there is no resistance on the prop such as coming down from speed (if you hit it right) or when the prop is out of the water when I'm just running it in the driveway, it shifts fine.
I did replace the seals in the lower unit while I had it apart. Did I set something up wrong?
Been fighting this for a year now.

Read up on how the shift interrupt switch works and adjustment.

Re: Mercruser hard shift

do u give the prop time to stop spinning when slamming into forward from reverse? reverse to forward? IMO u shouldnt be slamming from forward to reverse, reverse to forward without at least a second or two of neutral..probably the reason u had to replace the gears in the first place im guessing?.?..

The gear replacement was from a bad seal leak (low oil level) and I don't slam anything.
