shift interruptor

I am very new to all this so this will be the dumbest question on this site. I have a 1978 century 270 I have to replace the shift interrupter but the frame from the old one is too wide. If someone has pics on how to place the new interrupter I would appreciate it. Thank you

Why do you have to replace the shift interrupter plate? I hope it's not because the engine dies when you shift.

Also need to know what engine you have, in this forum, we could care less about what boat it's in.
