First post, total noob here. I just recieved a 1978 Sea Raider. Its a 15' fiberglass, with a tri hull I believe and an open bow. I need to replace some if not all of the floor due to rotting. I thought it would be straight forward til I pulled the carpet up and realized the wood goes under the shell on the bow. How do I go about replacing the wood under there? See the pics for a better idea of what I'm dealing with. I'll take more pics if anyone needs them. This will be a DIY project on a tight budget, as I just want to get this out on the water and fish! Heres a couple pics for now.

Re: 1978 Sea Raider floor replacement

Welcome to iboats.

Probably the best route is to separate the cap (top part of the hull) and the hull. You will need full access.

Read through some of these fiberglass repairs for deck replacements. You have a big job ahead.......... what kind of motor is there?

Do your homework ........... this is not a cheap repair.

In the interim you might want to take a circular saw and cut a 1 foot square out of the deck.......keep the saw blade only out for about a 1/2" depth. This will give you an idea of "what lies beneath" .

Re: 1978 Sea Raider floor replacement

The boat has a '78 evinrude 9.9 outboard, runs good as new! As for the cap removal, do I just take the strip off around the boat? I don't want to have to cut it off or anything. The good(sorta) news is, I don't think the wood goes all the way up front. I'll get a pic tomorrow, but there's a piece of plywood about 2-3 ft wide in the middle that goes maybe 1-1 1/2 ft under the "cap". Then there's a space just covered with fiberglass where the bottom is raised. Then on each side there's 8/9x1(?) planks running up under the front two dashboards. I think if I can manuever the boards on/off I should be ok without taking the cap off. I know there's gonna be decent money involved but I'm gonna cut down where possible. (ie just epoxy/ treat standard plywood, skip the fiberglass).

I'll post a few more pics of the layout tomorrow
