Volvo sounds like a diesel

I have 2007 Volvo 3.0 it idles rough but accels fine. It sounds like a diesel a bit when at idle but sounds fine under a load. Is this a mixture issue or a timing issue. It idles at the factory 900-1000 rpm and sometimes it is hard to start. Please give me any feedback that could help.

Richen up the idle mixture on the carb a little.

Thank you Don. How do I richen the mixture. I hear there are two mixture screws on the carb. Where are they and do I just adjust like an old car .. Richer is counterclockwise.
