Hello this is my first of probably many posts. I currently have a 19' oliver boat that i keep docked in the summer. My uncle has my grandfathers boat which I grew up on and I want to restore it. it's a 1979 tempest 19' fiberglass I/O pretty heavy boat.

Now the trailer that the boat currently sits on has broken leaf spring, 2 rotton tires, no lights and some broken rollers.. I currently have my northstar trailer for my oliver boat which I just serviced and is ready for the 500km trip*knock on wood*.

When I get there how would I go about transferring a boat from the disabled trailer to my trailer in a yard?. Or should I try to repair the trailer enough to get it to a launch (don't feel comfortable doing).

1 truck
2 trailers
2 people
1 mission lol

Any help would be appreciated.. thanks in advanced!

When you searched this site for information about unloading boat from trailer on dry land, what did you find?

Ideally, you need jack stands that would allow you to raise the boat off the old and then back the new one into that spot. Lower the stands, secure the boat and away you go.

You may be able to remove the winch stand from the bad trailer, back the good trailer as close to the boat/old trailer as possible. Hook the winch of the good trailer to the boat and crank it over the bad trailer onto the good one. You will have to block the wheels of both trailers and go very slow watching all points of contact. You may have to use jacks to adjust how the boat is transferring from one to the other. It's tough to tell you just exactly how to do it without actually being there during the process, but that's how I did it when I purchased my boat without the trailer it was on.

?
So just put in one on the keel on the bow and one on the keel of the stern? maybe one it in the middle? pull the trailer out and raise and move the stands to get my the axle and cross members?

Someone also suggested hooking the stern hooks by a cable to a tree.. disconnect the cable at the front winch and pull the boat off onto tires. Then winching it onto the new trailer.. I didn't know how strong that hook is on the bow considering everything in the boat is pretty rotten.

2 on the stern, pull trailer forward until you can get 1 in the middle under keel forward of center. Pull trailer rest of way out, push new trailer in.

I would dip - splash the good boat then get the klunker loaded, unload with a saddle to hang in a tree, go get your good boat from the dock after your friends fishing trip. While I restored my 15ft Glastron I hung it in a tree for about 2 weeks then put the cap in the tree for 3 weeks while I glassed in all the hull wood - nieghbors thought I really went crazy when they mowed and saw the changeover! I made the saddle from 2inch wide towing straps, then 2x4 for the cap, this gives you shadetree mechanic experience.
