Fuel gauge issue

I'm trying to get my fuel gauge to work right. As I put fuel in my tank the gauge stayed on empty. So I decided to check the sending unit. As I was taking the sender out of the tank, the needle went to full and stayed there. I tried to play with the float to see if the needle would go back to empty, but it stayed on full. Does anyone know if this is a sender issue ot a guage issue.

Thanks Mav

Re: Fuel gauge issue

Hard to tell unless you do some testing. Sending unit resistance is 33 ohms full, 109 ohms at 1/2 and 240 ohms empty. Make measurements withe the pink wire disconnected. The gauge went to full as you were removing the sender because you apparently shorted the sender wire (pink) to ground. If the gauge is still stuck on FULL with the pink wire disconnected (either at the gauge or the sender) the you toasted the gauge but also measure sender resistance.
