1985 Mercury 70 Hp Boging down

Hello I just aquired a 18 ft boat from someone who always stored it in a garage and does not have very much use since he purchased it in 1985. The boat and the motor are in excellent condition. The 70 HP Mercury has a problem, It starts up fine, but when you give it throttle it wants to bog down, it doesn't stall out, but it just lays down. Can you guys help me trouble shoot this. What should I look for starting with the easiest and working my way from there ?

Losen up the mixture scews on the carbs starting with the bottom carb about 1/8 turn out and try again. If it doesn,t improve losen it up another 1/8 turn until you get a nice holeshot. You may have to start from scratch turning the screws in until lightly seated then out 1 1/2 turns start the engine. Turn the screws in until it faulters then turn out 1/4 turn. try the throttle. If it falls on it,s face do as intructed in the begining of this post.
