So Ill start off by saying, Ive read your thread on first posts. But If you can Id my boat Ill be your internet buddy.

I bought this boat for a bargain, It has a Mercruiser 120. With what I think is a pre alpha outdrive?? Im not sure but It didnt require the hinge pin tool I purchased. It has 320 hours on it says the hour gauge. It was also converted from single cable steering to, the round-a-boat steering, not impressed. and I also do not have trim limit sensors? I have a limit switch I believe on the top of gimball housing, and a blue and pink wire cut on the inside of the transom with no destination. serial at the engine bellhouse is 3953997

I immediately brought it home. It was to good to be true and I was in love. It started right away. but I didnt have trim up. When you push both buttons on the top, the solenoid clicks but does nothing. everything is wire brushed and tight ? I have yet to find the "trailer" button.

The boats wiring has been hacked to bits, I would like to know my boat Id as I would like to get a full wiring diagram for my boat as well as my engine bay.

I took it to a friends cottage that weekend. It ran beautifully and other then having the "rigged" steering fall apart resulting in a reverse 180 to not end up through his dock. simple fix. now I notice its taking on water, not that bad. We checked it out and I ordered the bellows. It was a small leak and the bilge takes care of it. I took it out the next weekend and It felt sluggish with just myself in it. I ended up going over a small wake of a jetski and lost all spark. I towed it in with a friend. noticing the coil had leaked. I replaced with another coil from my plymouth duster. Its the same coil, but now no spark. Do you think this is a ground issue, or distributer issue. It looks like a full tune up was done but Im ordering points and a condenser asap anyways. but if you see anything in my pics that you know where it should go or what it does. all help is welcome.

the leakresulted in taking the outdrive off and replacing the bellows. I did not have a shifter tool handy:rolleyes: so we fed it out.

We removed the outdrive in forward. however when we put it back together the shifter "shoe" was not seating properly. We did what we needed to, for it to get on there. couldnt tell you what it ended up in. we tried everything. I forced it to the left for drive just before it went together but I lost reverse? what I did to counter this problem after reading post after post and fiddling with the lower shift cable. I ended up just flipping the barrel adjuster on the upper shift cable and now it has reverse, It doesnt bind in any gear and seems to work fine but should I have stayed messing with the lower cable?

So thats what I got. I cant trim up. My wiring is messed, My transmission may grenade, oh and I cant even start it :( but itll float.

Your engine serial number (3953997) puts it at a 1974 engine.

You have the single solenoid trim system, so here is a link to the OEM service manaual. It has wiring diagrams, trim information.

Steering wise, I have never seen cable steering on an IO before, what were they thinking

Might take some pictures of the transom shield where the steering arm is so we can see what you have to work with and what might be missing.

I will get those pics later on to tonight. I believe they were Russian tank mechanics that sold me this boat. You should see behind the dash. I don't know where to start,
