Tilt and Trim Fluid

I have a 1996 40 HP Johnson with factory tilt and trim. The fluid is low. The services manual says to fill with PTT fluid. Do I need to use a propritary fluid or is there a generic type fluid that works as well?

You can go to Walley World and buy power trim fluid for it; some people even use auto transmission fluid.

You can also use Dextron II ATF fluid.
