1972 shift handle removal?

So I came across a 1972 6 hp johnson seaking in very good condition other than the shift handle is broken at the top I have a nother motor with the same handle and want to swap them out im hoping I don't need to remove the power head to do the swap? Anyone know the correct way of doing this? Thanks John

Sorry, you have to remove the powerhead. There is no other way.

BTW, that is a Sea Horse. Sea King is an old Montgomery Ward motor.

Thanks, yeah sea horse lol not sure why I was thinking about sea king.
