My 190 Mercrusier just locked up. Where is a good "'cheap" place to buy engine (rebuilt, long block). I would like to replace with V8. How difficult would that be? How much would I have to change?

Me too, I need a new engine.

Do you want a cheap engine or a good engine? I'm not sure that those come from the same place . . .

If you upgrade by doing a V8 long block, you will need the intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, perhaps the water, pump, etc.

Usually, long blocks are meant to replace the same size engine, so pretty much everything from the old engine can be swapped. You may get $100 to death doing a long block upgrade.

My work is good, cheap, and fast. Pick any two.

If the 190 is actually the model number, it's a 470/3.7 Mercruiser 4 cylinder. Converting to a V8 is expensive, and a lot of things have to change.

plus you may need to change out drive gear ratio to 1.5 to 1 with a V8. You may check in on the prop form for ideas.

My boat started its life 31 years ago with a 200hp 5.0 Mercrusier & MC-1 drive.
Today I still have the MC-1 drive bolted to a 340hp 5.7 Chevy. I have to be careful not to abuse the outdrive .
