Well here goes,
Friend gave me his boat that has been sitting for 15 years. It is a 1979 american royal with 120 mercruise. I live in MN so he told me that when he stopped using it he used automotive antifreeze to winterize it and parked it behind his house. Well needless to say I had to replace alot of things just to see if the motor runs and it does but now the oil is milky and about 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart over on the dip stick. The manual I have doesn't really say much about this type of problem. If someone could point me in the right direction to pinpoint the problem I would be grateful. This is my first inboard boat I have owned. I am auto mech. of 27+ years so I'm not afraid of tearing this down to fix but is it going to be worth it?

Thanks for your help

My first thought.... In Min and sitting 15 yrs..... Many cold winters........Cracked Block,Manifold

Start with the Manifold first, check for cracks......

Pressure test water side of the block while it's still together....

Good luck!

The first and easiest solution i would think is to change the oil and filter, and see if it reoccurs. If that's the same ol' oil it's probably chock full of condensation and the additives that protect the metals are possibly toast as well. Mine was that way when i bought her, but a change, and ran her for a while on muffs, to temp and such, and then on the lake and still crystal clear. All in total i think the filter was 10 bucks from bass pro, and the oil isn't too bad either. Unless of course you have allready done this :)

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard Mark,.... You've got a Cracked block,...

Probably along the inside wall, opposite the drain plug, portside....

Yank it out, strip it down, flip it over, 'n Look,... you'll see 'em....

Find yerself a runnin' 3.0l motor, in a Rotten hull, 'n swap it in, is the easiest way out...

If the hull you've got now, ain't already Rotten...

Leori,
Changed the oil and filter like you said and that took care of the problem. Had it out on the lake for 2 hrs and no more water in the oil runs great but a little warm so I'm going to change out the water impeller in the pump and put in a new thermostat.

Thanks Again
