89 contessa 2850 timing

does anyone know what the timing specs are for a 89 bayliner contessa with the 460 in it? i just rebuilt the engine and its over heating and really hard to start. ive been from o degrees all the way up to 30 but still gets hot <br />i just bought a new dual points distrubutor to go in it as well any input would greatly help. i have a new impeller as well

Don't know of any "Marine" dual point distributors, so would suggest you go back to a marine unit before you blow yourself up. The marine distributors have screen vents in them and approved for use in boat.<br /><br />As far as timing, it's supposed to be 10° BTDC, be carefull on the 460's, they have marks for BTDC and ATDC, if you are on the wrong side, you are WAY off.

I have a pair of 89 460's in my 35 Thundercraft, have always set them for 10 deg, in the last 10 years the only heating/cooling issue has been, takes too long to warm up and both cases it was a stuck open t-stat.
