Got a new VP 5.7GS w/new carb. My SS prop will get me to 53mph which great. However, I'm only turning 4100 rpm. Boat is 21 ft open bow at 3100 lbs. I'm pretty happy about the speed but know my top end could be 4800 rpm. Should I be concerned with my prop pitch?

Well, if the engine is in tune and has no mechanicals issues it looks like you are overpropped. Is the carb linkage adjusted prpperly to permit the throttle plates to open fully? You don't say what kind of prop you have pesently, nor what pitch it is, also missing is the gear ratio of your O/I. My VP 5.7 carb has 1.51:1 for gears. You are using the drive from the 5 litre? It was probably in the area of 1.6:1. You say it has a new carb? The 5.7 uses the same 500cfm 2 barrel Holley as the 5 litre VP. While it is Perfectly sized for a 5 litre turning 5000 rpm, it is a wee bit tiny for the 5.7. I have put a Holley spreadbore 650 on my 5.7 and it did give a noticable increase in rpm.
