I have to replace my transom bellows...I have the replacement and have been given some advice by my service guy about replacing it myslef without dropping the sterndrive from the intermediate housing....he said do it on a nice hot day (to soften the rubber) and make sure the seal is well greased before attempting to stretch it over the lower end...my question is what is the best type of lubricant to use when I do this....some type of marine silicone perhaps?....I would be grateful for some advice from anyone who has done this themselves.

hot soapy water. remove the prop, trim tab, and water directors

rtv of your choice on the transom (I like permatex copper)
marine epoxy on any screws holes that are lacking in bite

and use the OEM seal. The aftermarket ones are almost the same price, and there have been intermittent material issues with aftermarket.
