First of all I'm new to the forum and new to boats in general. Never thought I would own a boat in the near future, but I couldn't let this boat be crushed for scrap metal. I'm a young hot rodder and love the look of vintage transportation. So my younger brother works for a junk yard here in the Twincites, Minnesota and they had just brought in a boat a month or so ago that he said I had to check out. He showed me some pictures of boat which I had to agree with him that it was super cool looking, but I had no need for it. I'm already working on a full custom 1936 Chevy Master Sedan Delivery (try to find another one of those), 1978 Honda XL 350 motorcycle and have a 1950 Ford Tudor waiting to be hot rodded. So you can see I have my hands full, but that didn't stop me from buying the boat a month later. So we were up north on Pelican lake with my uncle's boat and it gave me the itch to buy that vintage boat. About a week of going back and forth on the price of the boat with the owner of the junkyard we settled at $300. Not to bad for a 1958 FeatherCraft Clipper, 1958 Tee-Nee Trailer and 2 1958 Johnson V4 50hp outboards. Oh yeah, plus a case of beer to have it flatbed trailered to the house since the trailer has 2 flats and needs some work.
So it's been less then a week now of owning the boat and I've already started the process of restoring it and collecting parts. I tore out the deck the other day since the boat sat with a lot of water in it and the plywood started to really stink. I am keeping them for templates for the new deck. With the deck out I spent a good 30 minutes hoseing all the crap out in the boat.
So my plan right now is too take plenty of pictures of all the details of the boat and strip it down. This will allow me to store the parts indoors while the boat sits out in the back yard. During which time I plan on tearing down the trailer and restoring that first. Couple of bent pieces, replacing some parts, paint and rewire.
I'll keep posting the progress as I go and will most likely have questions if I can't find answers online.
Regards
