Does anyone have any advice, information or comments about replacing the stock switchbox and coil with a CDI unit? I have a aquired this motor and was told it had a bad switchbox and after taking it to the local boat shop, was told it needed carb rebuilds, a switchbox and possibly a dist assembly. the quote for repair was 1500 in parts and 900 labor (you have got to kidding me) and couldn't tell me if I needed the dist until after replacing the switchbox. i can rebuild all of the mechanical stuff myself, but after pricing the older switchbox and parts, I am looking at the aftermarket CDI unit. any thoughts?

just talked to a cdi rep named dave, nice guy, had a failed switch box replaced new 2 years ago, they will warranty a new one bought by a reputable place such as iboats up to 2 years, but ebay no. the CDI units seem to put out more horsepower/rpms then the oem, they must be replaced in pairs, no mixing brands
