Hello,

Can someone tell me the horsepower rating between the serial number of 6777600 (1985 140) and a 0D607011 (1991 3.0)?

I'm confused on if they have different or the same horsepower? I've read in some places that the 140's have a lower horsepower rating than the newer 3.0L?

Thanks,

Jerry

Ayuh,.... Politics.... is it bein' rated for a Sales brochure, or the Insurance Co.,..??

I've seen it rated from 115hp, to 140hp, though I hear Volvo is puttin' Efi on 'em, for 150hp, if ya believe it....

The 3.0l, 181 cid, I-4 Chevy has been puttin' out 140hp since the beginnin' of time...

'course, the horsepower has been measured at the crank, 'n at the prop, 'n Who knows where/ how else...

Thanks Bond-O. It should would be nice if they could just mark and measure HP the same. :) That would just be too easy. :)

Re: HP rating difference

This is a common question. The HP differences are marketing the change to prop shaft from flywheel measurement and one of the other big ones you see is the addition of vortec heads to certain I/O's in 1996 and of course MPI and EFI vs carbs and the 2bbl and 4bbl as well.
How much does a cat take off the HP of the new MPI engines?
