Hi...I am looking for a prop for my 1964 Evinrude 60hp sportfour.
Did they make these in stainless? Mine is aluminum. in decent shape but want to get another, preferrably stainless.

The prop I have is is 10x9.5. Can I put a different size on it to potentially get a bit more out of the motor?

If you EDIT know of someone that has one to sell. Let me know

Somebody may be making it in stainless now, but I doubt it. They sure didn't back in "the day". There probably were brass ones made by Michigan though. Truth is, I've never seen anything other than aluminum.

Props need to be matched to boat, load, and use. So it is impossible to sit here and tell you what size to get. With that in mind, I will say that OMC did a pretty decent job of supplying a prop with the motor that worked best with the average boat and load the motor would be apt to be used on. The dealer was then expected to swap it for another if necessary.

It was my experience that the 9.5 x 10 was a very good prop for most boats. (It takes a different prop nut & drive pin though) That was not a typo----9.5 x 10 is not the same prop as 10 x 9.5

Re: Prop for1964 Evinrude 60hp sportfour

In the 70s we had a 1965 90hp that had the same gearcase. usually we ran it with the 10 x 9 1/4. We also had the 9 1/2 x 10, I tried the 9 1/2 x 10 one day, I seem to remember it had the same rpm at WOT as the 10 x 9 1/4 but the holeshot was slightly slower. We also had a 10 x 11, it did give a 2 mph higher top speed but a big loss of holeshot. The 10 x 12, 10 x11, 10 1/4 x 10, 9 1/2 x 10 used a drive pin that was about 2 1/4 inches long and large prop nut. The 10 x 9 1/4 had a small hub and used a drive pin of about 1 1/4 inches with a small prop nut. You could use the small pin and nut on all the forementioned props. It would fit but probably wasn't the best for smooth water flow.
