reassembling an alpha one outdrive

I have everything assembled. When I put it in neutral it stays in drive. I have no idea what happened

First - welcome aboard!

Second - a little more information would be helpful. Do you mean you assembled the lower unit to the upper unit? Perhaps you missed the washer on the lower shift shaft.
