Ignition Problems

I recently purchased a 1991 Glasstream 180 SE with a 3.0 Mercruiser I/O. I've been chasing electrical problems for the past few weeks and I've finally hit a dead end. When I purchased the boat the motor was solid, had great compression and was well maintained. The only problem was the ignition system. The distributor cap, plugs and plug wires showed obvious wear so I replaced those before moving forward. From there, I found the starter solenoid to be incorrectly wired and replaced it. I am still not receiving spark and I'm wondering if someone can provide some guidance on how to move forward from this point. Specifically, does anyone know the specifications for the ignition components? I would like to test the system to see where the problem is but I can't find what the readings should be. Any assistance would be much appreciated, thanks!

Re: Ignition Problems

What ignition system do you have? Is your drive the Alpha I or the Alpha I Gen II. Engine serial number would be handy.

It's a Alpha 1 Gen II and the engine serial is 00618995.

Re: Ignition Problems

I assume in your serial number it's an 0D, not a 00. Also, what ignition system do you have? SN does'nt tell us that. You have either points, DDIS or EST.

Re: Ignition Problems

It probably is a OD, the numbers are scratched and kind of hard to read. It has a EST ignition system.
