1965 18 ho Johnson question

I have a 1965 18 hp Johnson - after installing a new water pump and thermostat and about 5 minutes after running it I noticed dark oil coming out of a weep hole above the lower unit flange in front of the lower unit/leg - is that an indication that I may have a lower seal leak on the engine block?

By the way you are describing it, it's unburnt fuel leaking out of the exhaust housing drain, not uncommon.
