I bought a project boat that is a 81 mercruiser cobalt. I am very new to boat engines, the problem right now is its been sitting for who knows how long and the guy before me started tearing into it and then ran out of time so im trying to pick up the pieces. I repaced the spark plugs, coil, batteries, oil/fuel filters, changed the oil. I went to try and start it and nothing happened no sound from the starter or anything. After that i tried to crank the shaft with a wrench and it wont budge which is what concerns me. I am going to test the ingnition system and starter but if anyone can give any input as to why it wont turn i would be thankful.

Put the control box in forward gear, pull the 6 nuts (5/8 wrench) the rams (outboard end only) and pull the drive off. BTW forward gear is verrry important any time you pull the drive. Things can break if you don't.

After you have the drive off you may want to spray some oil in the cylinders before turning it over.
