Was wondering if I could take the power head off of a 1971 60 horse and put it on a 1976 75 horse base, my power head is toast on the 75 and the lower unit is toast on the 60 horse, I had posted on just swapping out the lower units before and was told that is a no go because one is electric shift and one is not, hence the question on just swapping the power head. I think i would have to take alot of the stuff off of the 75 horse to make it work but i think it can be done, looks like it any how?? Bob

I don't think it'll work. The crankcase on the 75 has the bosses for the shift linkage under the carbs, whereas the 60hp does not (being an electric shift). Would be much easier to find a 70 or 75hp powerhead from the mid 1970s. Part the 60 out if you need fundage...

yep looked at the the part that the carbs are mounted too, where the manual shift linkage is at, looks like if i swap that piece out it should work...lots a work to do it..but think its doable...Bob

The carbs are mounted to the manifold. Question now is, are the manifolds identical, and if they are, are the reeds too?

There are many other differences. The entire ignition system and wiring is different. If it will work at all, which I doubt, you are going to have to use the 60hp ignition system---which was garbage in comparison to the 75.
