Pulling a skiier at Lake Havasu. Full throttle accelleration for about 7 or 8 seconds, the skiier fell so I pulled the throttle back quickly (maybe even to neutral, I don't remember), and as I did, the outdrive went "bang" into neutral and the engine revved (but not a lot since I had been pulling back anyway).
Now there's NO FORWARD, just reverse. Yes, I backed up for about a mile to the dock. That's embarassing.
I got home and drained the gearlube and while it is a little darker than I'd like, I didn't see any chuncks, slivers or grounds, just some fine-fine metalics suspended in the oil.
QUESTION: What are the chances that it's only a linkage issue and I havent destroyed the upper unit, lower unit or the whole outdrive? Anyone else hear of such a thing?
I've only owned the boat for a couple months, third time out. The throttle cables are a bit sticky but worked okay, no issues. I did notice the prop would spin with enough resistance while on the trailer that it took two fingers to turn one way but only one finger to spin the other way. I was assured that was normal for the Bravo 1's, what do I know.
The boat is a 95 Advantage 21 foot with the MCM 350 Magnum EFI/MP (chevy 350/280 hp).
