Mercruiser Alpha One Roached Drive

I have seen the inside of drive unit serial OD698349 and it is not a pretty sight. The bevel gears are toast.
How do I know the gear ratio for a replacement? Can you identify the year?

The ratio is usually stamped on the side of the drive near the serial number. I checked the SN and it's a 1.84 Alpha I Gen II. Not just an Alpha I.

Hmmm....if the upper gears are "gone", then I wonder what the lower end looks like or has in store for its future!
