I do not know your answer. Why not rebuild your current PTT unit? The oring and seal kit is like $50. A new PTT motor can likely be had aftermarket for $200.

Chris - Thanks for responding to my post. I brought it to my mechanic for several issues including the engine kicking up when in reverse. There was also an obvious leak at the trim rod cap. They replaced the trim rod cap and the bleed valve along with some o-rings. It is now worse than it was. I have used this mechanic for my last 3 boats and he has always done good work, is honest and a nice guy. It raises the engine fine, but it drops down in less than 30 seconds. How hard is it to rebuild one of these and assuming I am not going to do it, what type of place should I take it? The used ones online do have a short-term warranty and run roughly $400.

Sounds like you have something wrong in the valve body on it.

Re: 1999 Johnson 150 Trim Assembly

boobie & chris - I talked to my mechanic a little while ago. There is some scoring on the trim rod that is causing the problem. He and I are pretty tight and I'm confident in his advice. He said they bled the system many times and tried to get it under control.

This evening he told me he knows of a 1999 Ocean Pro 115 with a blown piston, and one of his other customers can use the gearcase. Any chance this trim unit would work with my 150?

One thing I can tell you is the manual release valves are different between the v-4 and the v-6. You should be able to just switch them. It has to do with shallow water drive.

Thanks. If the unit on the 115 falls through or won't work with my engine, there are a few on Ebay that will work.
