Water Pick-up

Can the water pick up in the drive be used by removing the impellor when fitting a crank driven pump to a 350 Vortec

Not being pushy,I'm in the middle from the L6 to the V8 refit a quick reply would be helpful

I don't see why not that route (thru the drive) is what Volvo used for years. But why not put in a scupper and a sea ****?
