Have a 4.5hp Merc Outboard. 1981 vintage. Not been in use for 10 years.

First thing i changed was the impeller for water flow successfully.

Then cleaned carburator by dissambally. Cleaned spark plug tested for spark all OK.

Cranked but no start. Squirted carb cleaner in carb starts for 2 sec. Squirted carb cleaner in cyclinder reinstalled plug starts for 4 sec. So I believe no fuel.

Disconnected fuel pump from carb pumped up tp top of tube, cranked engine no fuel coming from pump.

Disconnected hose from cylinder cranked engine and could feel air pulses to activate pump.

Took pump apart all interoir rubbers and valves in tack.

Blow and suck in the air tube and valves alternate between suck in fuel and blow out fuel to carb.

Bulb pumps up hard, no back leakage.

So Im now at my diagnostic end, can any one help or suggest problem?

Re: No fuel to carburator

Plugged hose or bad pump. Try another line and tank. if not maybe rebuild the pump, even a small crack or pin hole wont allow it to do its job.

Dont use carb cleaner when testing.. no lube in it, especially after sitting dry for 10 years. Use a spray bottle with mixed gas.
